Christian County Elks Lodge Hosts 13th Annual Kite Day for Community Appreciation
Christian County Elks Lodge 2777 of Ozark recently celebrated its 13th Annual Kite Day, held in conjunction with the National Elks Community Appreciation Day. This year marked the largest turnout in the event’s history, with families, children, and community partners gathering for a day filled with fun, connection, and giving.
The sky over Ozark were dotted with brightly colored kites as kids and parents joined together to enjoy the simple joy of flying. The laughter of children and the cheerful hum of community spirit created a perfect atmosphere to celebrate the Elks’ commitment to service and unity.
Attendees also had the opportunity to meet local heroes from the Ozark Fire Department and speak with the local D.A.R.E. officer, giving children and families a chance to build positive relationships with those who help keep their community safe.
No community gathering is complete without great food, and the Elks delivered. Volunteers served up sizzling hamburgers and hot dogs fresh off the grill, bringing smiles to every face and helping fuel the day’s activities.
A particularly meaningful moment came when the lodge presented community grants to several local organizations, reinforcing the Elks’ dedication to making a difference. This year’s recipients included:
- 2 Rivers 4-H – supporting youth development and agriculture education ($500)
- DARE Program – promoting drug awareness and decision-making skills in schools ($500)
- Least of These Food Pantry – fighting hunger and providing vital resources to families in need ($1500)
- CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) – giving a voice to children in the foster care system ($1500)
- Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts – nurturing leadership, responsibility, and citizenship in youth ($500 each)
The 13th Annual Kite Day was a shining example of what the Elks stand for—community, care, and connection. With record attendance and heartfelt engagement, the event served as both a celebration and a reminder of the powerful impact local service can have.
